Teams are encouraged to temporarily add substitute players to their teams in place of (or in addition to) their full-time players as necessary. Key aspects of the CBA’s sub policy are outlined below:
Liability Waiver
ALL substitute players must complete the current Liability Waiver + Emergency Contact form prior to taking the ice.
Only one form needs to be completed per calendar year. The form applies to all CBA divisions of play.
Sub Fee
Players who are not or were never members of the CBA are able to participate as substitutes in any and all divisions FREE of charge.
Players who are or were members of the CBA will be charged a $10 fee for the second game (first game is free) for each division in which they participate as a sub.
Why is there a fee to play as a sub?
In a word, “growth”! Continuing to attract new players and expand our membership is a top priority of the CBA leadership. We believe that assessing a small sub fee to some players can help drive additional growth in two ways:
- The sub fees we collect serve as a steady and gradual fundraiser which allows us to finance future club activities that can promote growth at little to no cost for new members. These activities include covering ice time ($350/hour) to host our free “Broomball 101” sessions, awards for league champions and volunteers, maintaining the CBA club equipment locker, and subsidizing league fees to make participating more affordable for all of our members.
- By making it free for non-members to participate as subs, we are hoping to increase the number of new players visiting us to try out this goofy sport we love so much! Joining as a full-time member can be a big investment, so we want to offer as many “free samples” as possible to anyone interested in broomball.
